Black Owned Businesses
Black owned businesses have increased at a rapid rate over the past decade, as of 2015 the U.S. Census Bureau reported that as of 2012 there were 2.6 Million Black owned firms generating $187.6 Billion annually, and creating more than 1 Million jobs. There are also many incentives offered by state and local governments to Minority-owned businesses. MBCC helps it members tap into these resources and more.
The Black Business Directory for Madison and Dane County is a publication of the Madison Black Chamber of Commerce. An updated third edition will be released in summer 2017.
The Directory makes available a listing of Black-owned businesses in the area with the intention of bringing an awareness that generates increased revenue. The Directory is a testament that Black Madison is a part of the commerce and vibrancy of the city of Madison. The Black businesses are integrated into the economic fabric of Dane
Businesses are listed by name (in alphabetical order), by category and by the owner’s first name.
It is not always convenient to patronize a Black-owned business if it is not located in your immediate neighborhood. But it is so worthwhile. Building economic stability and overcoming disparities begins with building business capacity.
